Supply Chain Resilience
Supply Chain resilience is a very hot topic for the time being after the important disruptions seen in 2020/2021. Many industrial players are rethinking their supply chains to make them stronger and less vulnerable. It is true that the number of disruptions has increased considerably during the last decade. According to a study from McKinsey Institute a company will now face a major disruption each 3 to 4 years. The Covid crisis with its many implications (container crunch, border closures, lockdowns, ...) is still fresh in our mind as is the Ever Given blockage of the Suez Canal. Just before a strong winter disturbed many flows in Texas and geopolitical risks are all around and are not going to disappear overnight.
But what can you do about it ?
Different strategies are poissble to avoid or limit the impact of such disturbances. One thing is sure. The companies who proactively are reviewing the resilience of their supply chains will perform much better during a crisis that those who are acting in a pure reactive mode.
A first layer of actions relate to your infrastructure (do you have buffers in place, can you isolate some parts of your supply chain, do you have alternatives defined or in place, ...), a second layer is related to the tools and process (what is the visibility you have on your operations, do you know how to act in case of emergency, are your people familiar to handle uncertainty ?). The last layer is about the people (do you have the right people in place, are they trained, do they know your supply chain sufficiently well).
How can we help ?
Let us make a risk assessment and scan and challenge your supply and value chains. This will be a good base to afterwards see collaboratively what can be done to make your operations more resilient.
